Full Colored Image of Book 2 of The Legend of Korra Released

Bryan Konietzko used Tumblr once again today to release a bit more details regarding Book 2 of The Legend of Korra. Yesterday, we received two Story Board images of Book 2. Today we received a full colored image from Book 2.

As you can see above, the image simply depicts Korra standing upright, looking rather angry.

It’s likely that she is either already engaged or about go be engaged in some sort of fight. The background image is a bit unclear, but based on how I see it, it may depict the Southern Watertribe.

Two Pieces of Story Board Art for Book 2 of The Legend of Korra Released

Earlier today, Bryan Konietzko used Tumblr to give Legend of Korra fans some more Book 2 news to chew on. In his latest Tumblr post, Bryan did a Crew Profile of Owen Sullivan who is currently on-board as an Assistant Director of The Legend of Korra.

While giving some background of Owen, Bryan deemed it appropriate to show two pieces Book 2 story board that Owen worked on.

They certainly don’t reveal a whole lot about Book 2 at all, but screen shots are screen shots and it’s always exciting to get some sort of Book 2 information. The first piece of story board art basically shows Korra, Bolin, Jinora and Asami at the table eating some rice:

Nickelodeon Upfront 2013 Begins February 26th – Announcement for Book 2 of The Legend of Korra’s Release Date Seems Likely

Note: Big thanks to the commentor by the alias of JB for notifying me about the Upfront’s release date.

Every year, Nickelodeon holds an event called an “Upfront”, which is essentially the Comic-Con equivalent for Television Networks. During these Upfronts, Networks talk about their upcoming television schedule for the year. They discuss shows that will be returning to the network and talk about what fans should expect during the new seasons.

During March of last year, Nickelodeon held their 2012 Upfront and basically gave a rundown of their 2012 Television Schedule. They discussed the newly planned seasons for Spongebob Squarepants, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and many other popular Nickelodeon shows. More importantly, they discussed Book 1 of The Legend of Korra. Nickelodeon’s 2012 Upfront gave us the release date for Book 1 as well as a new trailer for the series.

Throughout this current off-season, Nickelodeon has failed to even mention Book 2’s existence. For any Legend of Korra fan that hasn’t done his or her homework, Book 2 doesn’t even exist. I was a little disappointed in the network for not capitalizing on apparent opportunities, but another opportunity has arisen: the Nickelodeon 2013 Upfront is scheduled for February 26th where the Network is expected to talk about their entire 2013 television schedule.

Based on passed history, it’s practically confirmed that Nickelodeon will at least mention Book 2 since it will be a part of their 2013 schedule, but I think we’ll get more than a simple mention.

Korra will Likely Travel to the Southern Air Temple in Book 2 of The Legend of Korra, Possibly to see Aang?

[Editors Note:] Before I get into the post, I just wanted to say I decided to change my profile name from my alias, AdminAvatar, to my real name, Keval. If you ever want to mention me in the comment section, you can refer to me as Keval or, if you REALLY want to, AdminAvatar.

When Comic-Con rolled around last year during the summer, we were given many different screen shots of Book 2. One of my favorite screen shots had to be the narrow image of the Southern Air Temple. It had the look of mystery and took me back to the many classic moments of The Last Airbender.

Mike and Bryan have already mentioned that approximately half of Book 2 will be in Republic City and the rest would be set throughout the rest of the Avatar world. This image pretty much confirms that the Southern Air Temple will be one of the many settings of Book 2, but the question of why Team Avatar would even journey to the Air Temple still remains.

Why would Korra and the rest of Team Avatar even spend their time at the Southern Air Temple? Aang often visited the Air Temples since it was his first home, but Korra has almost no connection to any of the Air Temples in her current life time.

The Legend of Korra – The Art of the Animated Series: Book 1 Confirmed for July 24th, 2013

Naga

The Art of the Animated Series book for Book 1 of The Legend of Korra will hit stores July 24th, 2013 and will reportedly be 184 pages long. This is something that all Avatar fans should look forward to just because it’s such a brilliant extension of Book 1, and it can almost serve as Encyclopedia for the development of The Legend of Korra to some degree.

The Book will feature never-before-seen art work from the creators as well as captions from Mike and Bryan detailing specific aspects of Book 1’s development.

The Book will be a little expensive at $34.99, but for what you’re getting, I think it may be worth it. If you’re still not sold, maybe this two page preview of the book will help make your decision a bit easier:

According to Dante Basco, Mike and Bryan Disliked The Last Airbender Movie and Warned Him to “Never See it”

Remember the movie that talked about the life of some kid named Ahng and how he was destined to be the Uhvatar? It had decent special effects, but when it came to dialogue and plot integration, it looked like the works of a 10 year old. Maybe you remember it. I wish I could forget, but that would only be possible if someone gave me the address to Lake Laogai.

Brain washing, anyone?

Anyways, The Last Airbender, by M. Night Shyamalan turned out to be an epic flop that was liked by a small population and hated by the rest of the world. Mike and Bryan, the creators of the animated series, always declined to comment about the film publicly, but that didn’t stop them for sharing their opinions with others such as Dante Basco.

Dante Basco, best known to the Avatar Community as the voice of Zuko and General Iroh II, recently held a Reddit AMA a few days ago in which he responded to fans’ questions on a comment board. One fan asked him what he thought about “m night shaymalamadingdong’s” movie, and he responded as followed:

Book 1 of The Legend of Korra DVD to Release on May 21st, 2013 [Update: Release Date was Inaccurate]

Update: It looks like Amazon might have made a mistake. Their page now states that a release date is yet to be announced, thus making the previous release date invalid. Maybe we can be optimistic and expect an earlier release date now? It’s really up in the air at this point. Big thanks to Airspeed Prime from Avatar: The Last Airbender Online for pointing this out.

We finally have one of the two release dates we’ve been anticipating for several months. Book 1 of The Legend of Korra will finally hit shelves on May 21st of this year. This information comes from Amazon, who for the longest time posted that no release date was announced, but that post has since been updated with the actual release date.

A May release month is much further down the line than I would have predicted, especially since the cast commentaries were completed a month ago, but it’s no big deal.

The fact that Mike and Bryan decided to finally relay this information to the fandom is great. Hopefully they’ll decide to relay some more information in the area of “release dates” sometime soon.

Track Team Currently Creating Sound Effects for Spirits in Book 2 of The Legend of Korra

The actual production status of Book 2 of The Legend of Korra has been heavily overshadowed the past few months. Part of the reason for this is because we haven’t really received any news about the production status thus far. We’ve known that the voice work has been done for quite some time, but other than that, we weren’t really told much about the production timeline.

It turns out that the always-quiet Track Team decided to turn the mood earlier today by using Twitter to talk about Book 2’s current production. According to them, the next objective in completing Book 2 is to implement sound effects for the Spirits.

You can see the actual Twitter feed below:

Book 2 of The Legend of Korra to be promoted at Anime Matsuri Con 2013

Janet Varney, the voice actress of Korra, has been scheduled to take a trip to downtown Houston on Friday, March 29th in order to make an appearance at the Anime Matsuri Con. According to a YouTube video from the official Convention, Janet will be making an appearance to talk about The Legend of Korra.

There is no word yet on whether creators Mike and Bryan will be making an appearance (or other voice actors, for that matter), but we can confirm that Janet Varney will in fact be present.

Conventions like these are generally highly anticipated because they are almost always a source of news and information for whatever product promoted. At the San Diego Comic Con, we receive tons of news for movies, television shows and games. In fact, Comic Con 2012 was the last time we received official Legend of Korra information.

I think we should be expecting the same thing from the Anime Matsuri Con.
