Nickelodeon Can’t be that Dumb – Book 2 of The Legend of Korra Might Not Have a Set Release Date Yet

Back to one of my all-time favorite blogging topics: the Nickelodeon network. Only this time, I’m here to defend their most recent acts of stupidity. Over the last few months, there have been several instances where Legend of Korra fans have almost expected an announcement for Book 2’s release date. In both instances, fans were severely disappointed.

The first instance was when fans expected a trailer of some sort to air during the television premiere of The Last Airbender. I don’t really feel like reiterating why exactly this was expected, but if you’re interested in that, you can read my first official “I Hate Nickelodeon” fan mail that I posted a few months ago.

After the fandom got over that, we all got our hopes up for the Nickelodeon Upfront 2013 where Nickelodeon revealed their television line up for the upcoming year. Most of us expected them to announce a Book 2 release date since a Book 1 release date had been announced at the 2012 Upfront. We were disappointed once again when no news showed up, and all of you unleashed your anger into an open thread I posted when I was too disgusted to rant.

I’ve now digested most of this ridiculousness and I think I’m starting to see things a bit more clearly. What if Nickelodeon hasn’t revealed a release date because they literally don’t know it themselves? What if we’ve been complaining about not having information that doesn’t even exist? It’s certainly a possibility, and it might even be reality.

Nickelodeon Disappoints Again: No Legend of Korra Book 2 Release Date Announced

RAGE ON NICK

I’m honestly at a loss for words…

I really don’t know what to say. I decided to write this post as soon as it became official: no Book 2 release date was announced. You are currently reading my raw, uncensored emotions.

F**k this sh*t!

Just when all the points seem to line up perfectly, Legend of Korra fans still get screwed over by Nickelodeon. I’m even angrier at the fact that I got all of you so hyped for this, only to be disappointed. That being said, I truly am very sorry for hyping all of you up disappointment – yet again.

Nickelodeon Upfront 2013 Primer: Time, Location and Details for Legend of Korra Fans

02_nick_elodeon_012510

We’re almost there: the Nickelodeon Upfront 2013 begins tomorrow. I just hope we’re not all getting excited for something that doesn’t even happen. But I see no reason for Nickelodeon not to announce Book 2 of The Legend of Korra’s release date. It would literally make zero sense. Nickelodeon can’t possibly be that dumb; surly they would want to make money off of The Legend of Korra – right?

After all, the Nickelodeon Upfront is all about communicating the Network’s yearly line-up to potential advertisers. If they skip out on mentioning The Legend of Korra, advertisers won’t even consider promoting their product during the airing of Book 2.

That would defeat the purpose of making the show in the first place. Even I understand that. I’m sure a television network does too. On that note, here is your essential reading on what is expected to be the Event all ‘Korra’ fans have been waiting for.

Nickelodeon Upfront 2013 Begins February 26th – Announcement for Book 2 of The Legend of Korra’s Release Date Seems Likely

Note: Big thanks to the commentor by the alias of JB for notifying me about the Upfront’s release date.

Every year, Nickelodeon holds an event called an “Upfront”, which is essentially the Comic-Con equivalent for Television Networks. During these Upfronts, Networks talk about their upcoming television schedule for the year. They discuss shows that will be returning to the network and talk about what fans should expect during the new seasons.

During March of last year, Nickelodeon held their 2012 Upfront and basically gave a rundown of their 2012 Television Schedule. They discussed the newly planned seasons for Spongebob Squarepants, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and many other popular Nickelodeon shows. More importantly, they discussed Book 1 of The Legend of Korra. Nickelodeon’s 2012 Upfront gave us the release date for Book 1 as well as a new trailer for the series.

Throughout this current off-season, Nickelodeon has failed to even mention Book 2’s existence. For any Legend of Korra fan that hasn’t done his or her homework, Book 2 doesn’t even exist. I was a little disappointed in the network for not capitalizing on apparent opportunities, but another opportunity has arisen: the Nickelodeon 2013 Upfront is scheduled for February 26th where the Network is expected to talk about their entire 2013 television schedule.

Based on passed history, it’s practically confirmed that Nickelodeon will at least mention Book 2 since it will be a part of their 2013 schedule, but I think we’ll get more than a simple mention.

Book 1 of The Legend of Korra DVD to Release on May 21st, 2013 [Update: Release Date was Inaccurate]

Update: It looks like Amazon might have made a mistake. Their page now states that a release date is yet to be announced, thus making the previous release date invalid. Maybe we can be optimistic and expect an earlier release date now? It’s really up in the air at this point. Big thanks to Airspeed Prime from Avatar: The Last Airbender Online for pointing this out.

We finally have one of the two release dates we’ve been anticipating for several months. Book 1 of The Legend of Korra will finally hit shelves on May 21st of this year. This information comes from Amazon, who for the longest time posted that no release date was announced, but that post has since been updated with the actual release date.

A May release month is much further down the line than I would have predicted, especially since the cast commentaries were completed a month ago, but it’s no big deal.

The fact that Mike and Bryan decided to finally relay this information to the fandom is great. Hopefully they’ll decide to relay some more information in the area of “release dates” sometime soon.

Nickelodeon Knows the Release Date for Book 2 of The Legend of Korra, But They Won’t Reveal It

Nickelodeon

Warning: This rant may not be suitable for children or adults in love with the Nickelodeon.

Clearly, I’m a bit frustrated with the “glorious” network that brought The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra to television. Just when we thought we’d get some official news about Book 2, specifically a trailer, Nickelodeon pulls the rug from underneath us and laughs. If the executives over at Nickelodeon were the least bit competent, they’d understand how advertising Book 2 during a commercial break of The Last Airbender was so perfect.

Most of the Avatar fans, both young and old, were all watching Nickelodeon together for the first time since the season finale of Book 1. When you have an entire fan base rounded up, you capitalize, but Nickelodeon ignored it. Like I have said before, The Legend of Korra is probably the most mature animated series Nickelodeon airs on their network. To think that all Legend of Korra fans are avid Nickelodeon watchers is ridiculous.

There’s a good chunk of the fan base that doesn’t even watch Nickelodeon unless The Last Airbender or The Legend of Korra airs. They’ve outgrown the network; it’s as simple as that. Obtaining a moment in which all the fans, both young and old, are watching the network is rare. It doesn’t come by that often, but when it does, Nickelodeon needs to take advantage of the scenario. They need to advertise Book 2 and show its fans that it still does exist. They need to rejuvenate the fan base that’s been left dead in the water since Comic-Con.

Besides, viewers who don’t take part in the online fandom likely know nothing about Book 2. Why should they? Ever since Book 1 ended, Nickelodeon has not even mentioned Book 2 on their network. How can you expect older fans that are not a part of the online fandom to even know about Book 2? It’s not like they spend their free time watching Spongebob Squarepants (at least I hope not). There’s no way for Book 2 to even be advertised to them. There was an opportunity when a lot of these older fans were watching The Last Airbender movie on Nickelodeon, but the network blew that chance. Realistically speaking, I don’t think there is another way to massively advertise Book 2 to the older fans that don’t watch Nickelodeon.

But surly Nickelodeon has its own plan, right? I personally wouldn’t think too much of their current “plan.” Up to this point, their “plan” has screwed the older fans and they’re currently screwing us online-fans. Why? Because based on how the Twittersphere’s been rolling these days, it looks like Nickelodeon has set a release date for Book 2, but they aren’t telling us the date for reasons that defy logic.

Book 1 of The Legend of Korra Coming Soon to DVD

Once in a blue moon we actually do get Legend of Korra news. This time, however, it has nothing to do with Book 2. But no matter, any solid news is always welcomed since confirmed updates don’t usually come by that often. Earlier this month, we received a trailer that confirmed that the Book 1 DVD set will be released “soon”.

There is no word yet on an exact date for Book 1’s DVD release, but I’m fairly confident that it’ll be released by Christmas.

If you still have not scene all of The Legend of Korra episodes and you are too anxious to wait until Christmas, you can always view them all in HD for free right here on this blog.

Here’s the trailer Nickelodeon released for the DVD set:
