Mike and Bryan have Nothing to do with Book 2 of The Legend of Korra’s Release Date

Amidst all the anger and animosity towards Nickelodeon, I’ve noticed that some of that anger has trickled onto the plates of The Legend of Korra’s creators, Mike and Bryan. I’ve read comments along the lines of Why aren’t Mike and Bryan announcing the release date? and I hate how the creators won’t give us Book 2’s release date. While I respect the passion that some of these fans clearly have for the show, I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t call them out.

What these fans are saying is completely inaccurate.

In this scenario, Mike and Bryan are essentially being framed for a crime that they didn’t commit. They are taking the blame for something that is completely out of their control because, quite frankly, Book 2’s release date is completely out of Mike and Bryan’s hands.

Mike and Bryan have no say in the release date for their series’ as well as the announcement for the release date. That decision lies solely in the hands of – you guessed it – Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon makes that decision on their own terms and they do not involve Mike and Bryan at all.

So if you want to complain to someone about not knowing the release, don’t complain to Mike and Bryan, don’t complain to me (ridiculous, I know, but I have heard complaints for not announcing a release date), and don’t complain to the voice actors involved in The Legend of Korra.

Complain to Nickelodeon. But please don’t bother the poor soul who runs the Twitter account, I highly doubt he or she has a say in Book 2’s release date. It’s the executives and marketing experts who plan it all out. They’re looking to get the best bang for their buck; they’ll air Book 2 of The Legend of Korra whenever it’ll be the most profitable.

That’s why Nickelodeon releases new episodes for prime time shows on Friday or Saturday. Their ratings for any show would sky rocket if it aired on Friday or Saturday night as supposed to Tuesday night – as an example.

So long story short, Mike and Bryan are the good guys in this scenario. Don’t let your animosity towards Nickelodeon rub onto the plates of Mike and Bryan, because they don’t deserve the blame for this mess.

[Editors Note]: As most of you all know, this blog is hosted by WordPress.com, a free blogging platform. I’ve decided to change that and self-host this blog. The new URL (domain) for this blog will be http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com. It should go live in a few days, but this is just a heads up.

Keep in mind that this won’t affect any of you in any way. Even if you access this site VIA its current domain, you will still be redirected to this blog. But this is just a heads up so you don’t freak out when you see that the domain is missing the .wordpress.com. Everything will remain the same.

  1. My thoughts exactly. I think if we don’t get a release date from Nick by the end of this month, I predict that it won’t be until summer arrives, considering that would be the most profitable time to air it. That’s when all of the kids are on their vacation from school. Just my hypothesis, though.

  2. I hate when people put the blame on Mike and Bryan. I knew it was Nick right from the start. Before people started speaking against putting the blame on these two gentlemen. I just knew it wasn’t their fault. These guys deserve nothing but the utmost praise and patience considering the deft amount of quality cartoons and stories we’ve been receiving from them.

  3. How do you self host a website. Also Does this mean That Janet Varney 0% chance will announce a release on Lok At Anime Matsuri!?

  4. I feel like the creators might not be happy with this whole release date thing either. Or at least that’s the impression I get from what they do tell us…

  5. Yeah, I’ll do that. I’ve been leaving polite-ish notes on Nicks twitter saying stuff like “I can’t wait for Book 2 of the Legend of Korra!” And it’s such a challenge not to call them creative yet vulgar words. But it’s not the twitter monitors fault, it’s not Brykes fault, it just needs to get planned out and such and waiting makes me want to pull my hair out.

  6. To be honnest, I don’t really care for a release date, I could wait until Nick’s “2013-14” season. All I would like is to know is if Bryke can show a trailer on youtube, a 30sec-1 minute teaser would be just enough to 1. Keep the hype and 2. To give a treat to the fans.

  7. Oh, I can’t stand that about todays fan-culture. Everyone just wants to get get get and they totally forget who actually *gives* it to them. No respect for storytellers anymore. They can’t get enough, get mad, switch off their brain and rant at the first thing that comes to their mind – the creators, authors, actors, producers or some big company. That’s how sentences like “George Lucas just likes to ruin Star Wars for us!!!!” come into being. Or “Hollywood just wants our money!!!”… whoever that evil Mr. Hollywood is. -.-

And I am sorry, but the same goes for Nickolodeon. I’m not a big fan of Nick, outside of Avatar and maybe the Fairly OddParents, but seriously: These guys just do their job and they would like to keep it. They are no money-grubbing devils, but regular people who have to pay rents, just like you and me. Just blaming an entire company for something like the secrecy about the release date is very easy but inappropriate. They have a right to keep it secret. After all, they invest alot of money and work to make this show happen. And we… do nothing.

That we still don’t know the release date is noone’s fault, because it’s not a crime or a mistake or something.
And one last thing: Honestly, what do we even need a release date for? Book 2 WILL come, that’s for sure. Are we really waiting for… waiting more? I mean, right now, we have to wait… with or without the release date.

  8. Remember the season 1 2 and 3 finale of atla? I waited for a epic finale(except for book 1) so waiting is worth it.

  9. Alright, I only wish that the Avatar creators have the guts to make a new series of Avatar: The Legend of Aang: (Shows blood, badwords, more mature stuff in their adult-hoods) Their adults, not kids no more.
Most of all us want to see the Lifes of the Avatar and his friends. Toonami could be a good place to show this kind of series. More bloody action and maybe even intercourses. The guts to move out of nickoidiots network, -Facepalm-

    • I forgot to mention more badass adventures and stuff.. Much like Bleach, Naruto, etc….

    • It’s not that simple. A show like that wouldn’t be family-friendly anymore and, as a continuation of the family-friendly TLA, would dissappoint many young fans, who are the actual target audience.

The show grew up enough with Korra. You shouldn’t expect anymore. And that has nothing to do with “guts”. It’s just wise to keep the series family-friendly. The show is in the first place for the kids and should always stay like that. And that’s coming from an adult fan! 😉

      • I agree. The show should stay family friendly. Its the best when there isn’t much violence cause then its easier for everyone to enjoy. Leave the violence and sex to the fanfiction…
