Over in the Tumblr-sphere, one Legend of Korra fan thought it would be funny to publish a false blog stating that Book 2 of The Legend of Korra would release on March 1st, 2013. This post ultimately resulted in yet another Book 2 release date rumor that almost everyone believed.
But as I have said in the past, rumors are just rumors. They should be taken as a grain of salt unless someone credible (such as the casts of The Legend of Korra) starts them. In this case, an amateur Tumblr blogger does not exactly represent a credible source.
Even without any credibility, however, this blogger still managed to somehow get 600+ re-blogs on the post. And the rumor was essentially in full go until the blogger graciously put an end to the madness by explaining that he or she had completely made of the date.
I won’t release the name of the blogger who started this rumor (even though I kind of want to), but if you really want to know who it was, a simple Google search will do the trick.
If there’s anything that can be learned from this, it’s that the power of social media is clearly not understood yet. Anyone can hop onto Tumblr or Twitter and start a world-wide internet rumor. That’s how a majority of rumors start in the first place.
So just a simple word of warning: don’t believe everything you read on the internet. A lot of it tends to be false.
